As of July 2023, this pet can also be purchased from the Trading Post. Goods from this in-game feature rotate monthly, so this pet may not always be available. Unlike the original version, the Trading Post version of the pet is not cageable.
This pet is redeemed through the extremely rare 'Spectral Kitten' loot card from the World of Warcraft Scourgewar TCG expansion. The card may be scratched to reveal a code allowing access to this pet. The code may be redeemed at Blizzard's promotion retrieval page. The pet may be obtained in-game from Landro Longshot in Booty Bay.

Thought this once Trading Card Game only pet would be unobtanium as the Scourgewar unscratched cards are retailing anywhere up to USD$325.

This pet is an option in the Trader's Post this month. Is it the same pet, or is there a difference between the one on the post and the one we got from the Trading Cards (or eBay)?
Bit the bullet and bought one today at the auction house. Price for a new one had been put at about half the current rate. Kindof a reward to myself after spending a couple days earning Nat Pagle coins to buy a Sea Calf from him (in lieu of getting THAT one at auction).
As a devoted collector I bought him recently on eBay for roughly 20€ (from REALLY nice seller, got Spectral Tiger Cub, Hippogryph Hatchling and Hatespark the Tiny for 55£), time to try this lil fellow now ;). Didn’t try him in battle yet so dunno how he is, yet its appearance is sooooo nice (quite similar to Xu-Fu but more cute as it’s a cub ;))). Named: Xu-Fu: Father and him: Father’s Son :P :)). Such a nice family :))) EDIT: renamed to Spectrie :P

Decent enough magical pet. It is truly excellent when you can use Call Darkness against the birds that just cast it. Taking a chance with Spectral Strike I managed to kill a Crow and then an Amber Moth and still be alive to Rend an Idol. Spectral Strike really kills flyers fast but you need Darkness. Leap is also very good to be faster than birds and to get the most out of Rend. With Prowl you can of course set up a very huge hit but one avoidance move and you are screwed. Ok pet in general.

I purchased one of those combined starter packs as a christmas gift for my brother back in 2009. When he opened it up he asked me what was the rare loot card at the time and I told him it was a spectral kitten (not even thinking about the possibility of finding it). My brother turned the card around and I just gasped, then he handed it to me! I couldn't have been more shocked lol He wished me a merry christmas and it has been by far been the best present he has ever gave me. RIP Jeffrey Westrup

The ''Spectral Cub'' is just a copy of Spectral Tiger Cub guys :) It will never be the same :P
Giavana, I have noticed that too and it still hasn't been removed so I live in hope that there might be a similar pet available to us at some point.
Has anyone noticed that in the pet tab, if you look up spectral tiger cub, there is the tcg version (spectral tiger cub) and a blizzard store version (spectral cub)? Is this a glitch? Mistake? I need it?!
Also it is a pretty good idea to have a macro set up that explains he is from the Trading Card Game and the easiest way to get one is to go to eBay. It saves a ton of typing. :)
This pet makes a great present for friends and family who play WoW, but don't try to get the trading card pets on their own.
The kitten will occasionally sit down and wait. It will only stand back up and follow you if you go more than about 10-15 yards away from it.
It has a click-on vocalization that's a sort of ghostly/spectral "Meowww!"
