This pet, the largest land-based companion to date, is redeemed through the extremely rare 'Ethereal Plunderer' loot card from the World of Warcraft The Hunt for Illidan TCG expansion. The card may be scratched to reveal a code allowing access to this pet. The code may be redeemed at Blizzard's promotion retrieval page. The pet may be obtained in-game from Landro Longshot in Booty Bay.
This pet doubles as a specialized vendor. When its owner kills a mob that grants experience or honor, the Ethereal Soul-Trader will "harvest its soul", yielding a small amount of Ethereal Credits to the owner. In exchange for this currency, the following items may be purchased:
- Soul-Trader Armor Set - six equippable items that form traditional ethereal garb.
- Diluted Ethereum Essence - a consumable that grants the ability to detect Lesser Invisibility (does not detect invisible players).
- Ethereal Essence Sphere - an electrical ball that may be thrown to other players.
- Ethereal Liqueur - a very strong alcoholic beverage.
- Ethereal Mutagen - used to transform a companion pet into a Flesh Beast.
Note that you cannot sell your unwanted items to the Ethereal Soul-Trader.

Farming Ethereal Credits:
I you have a Rogue and also need Coins of Air (for the Dig Rats and Sneaky Marmots which sell well at the AH) then go to that Murloc Beach on Broken Shore (Stonefin Shoals, 38 59). Those little pests respawn faster than you can kill them, they yield good amounts of Coins of Air and, since they are level 111, also Ethereal Credits if you are 120.
The price on these has really spiked in-game. I bought mine yesterday for 400k gold. (Level 25.)
I bought mine a lvl 25 today for 89k, and gave it a pet biscuit. Within seconds I was surrounded by people targeting it because I had a merchant pet following me around that was larger than me. They are decent in battle, and it shocks the corpses of dead NPCs and players outside of BGs and arenas to give you essence which you can then spend on its items for sale. It however can't be summoned in a BG or arena. Easily my favorite battle pet, a must have for any collection.
Grabbed one today on AH for 44K - Pretty cool looking, full size too which makes it even better.
Finally got my Ethereal Soul-Trader, I love his kit very strong against Flying pets.

After shuffling much gold off to my rogue, I somehow wandered into the AH in Stormshield while waiting for a response to a question. Browsed through the "Misc-Companion Pets" category and there he was! I got him for a steal at 25K. He is huge according to all my gnomes and even my worgen feels short compared, but this is worth the vertical differences! His soul collecting is fun to watch, and even when he dies in a pet battle, it's cool! Can't wait to get him higher than level 5 :D
I paid 35k for this pet today [Feb 19, 2016] and it wiped me out of gold, including my guild bank. But I don't feel bad despite comments of buying him for much less because this is one I have wanted for a very long time and I finaly built up enough gold to do it. I don't care much for toys or mounts, so pets are what I spend my gold on.
Bought on BMAH for 17k last night, been looking for a while but have never seen it on my servers AH
Who knows and can say how the tcg works? I know they are available on eBay. Is there a specific card to obtain to get this pet? Is there a chance to get from a booster pack? Do you have to buy a set or box? Thanks for any info.

I just got my Ethereal Soul-Trader today from someone in trade chat for 17k plus some spare Salvage Blood (was going for almost 30k on AH). I LOVE THIS GUY. Sure it's annoying when you are trying to loot something he's on top of it. But he's so adorable and he sells the most useless stuff but who cares!. This guy with his zappy hands is my new favorite pet!
Got mine the other day for 18k. On my server it averages from 35 to 40k. I had to get it.
For those wondering, you can not use the clothing sold by the trader for transmog.
He also has a nasty habit of seeking attention by standing on things you want to click (e.g. dead mobs, quest givers, etc.) and making sure you click him.
Besides that... Certainly my favorite pet (of the pets I own) at the moment, with awesome looks and a fun collection system.
This is the best looking pet I've ever bought!
Not to mention the purple arcane energy that it zaps your enemies with once they're downed! I love it!

But yeah, as many mention in there comments: there are suddenly alot of these pets on AH! Can anyone explain why???Bought one on Arthas today for 15k. Breed is B/B learned it no problem. I have no idea why they are selling for so cheap, ebay says they are worth 250 usd. Somethings not right..
Today I saw 3 (!!!) of them on my auction house, two ranging 50-60k and one 25k, so naturally I couldn't resist and bought it. What is surprising, I've never seen this pet, neither on AH or summoned, until recently, which got me thinking whether they all come from legal source...
