I strongly recommend using a Molten Corgi if you're lucky enough to have one. I used Blazing Yip 4 times and then was able to trap it. It never used its heal. Blazehounds and Tinder Pups also have Blazing Yip. All three of them also have Puppies of the Flame which I've also found to be useful in capturing wild pets.

Singlehandedly the longest and most irritating pet battle I have completed in memory.  At least in my battle-this snail has huge self heals and uses them frequently.  My usual catch team is my Anubisath Idol, my Terrible Turnip and my Emerald Proto-Whelp.  Had to use the whelp with Emerald Bite, Ancient blessing and proto-strike.  Used Ancient blessing on cool down, and had to throw four traps before I caught an uncommon. Cleaned up with my whelp and idol.  This better be a battle snail for the ages.
