A new pet was added in this week's PTR build — Micronax! [source]
A New Achievement Pet
The upcoming achievement Glory of the Tomb Raider is set to reward a new title, but it was revealed this week that it will likely also award the Micronax pet (pictured right).
There's still some slight confusion regarding this pet, as the achievement itself does not list the pet as a reward. Currently only the Pet Journal notes the Glory of the Tomb Raider achievement as the source of Micronax.
However, during the recent 7.2.5 Developer Q&A it was hinted that additional bonuses would be awarded along with the new title.
We'll have to wait and see where Micronax will ultimately be from, but we won't have to wait long!
7.2.5 Is Coming Soon™
Patch 7.2.5 is set for release this coming Tuesday, June 13th, and Normal and Heroic Tomb of Sargeras will open the week after on Tuesday, June 20th.
We're looking forward to the new content. Are you ready to collect more pets?
I don't have a particular problem with pets being 'niched' into one activity and/or being very time consuming to get, I just think this expansion has been guilty of that in a much bigger way than previously. I would enjoy more content that is challenging but ultimately obtainable even for casuals with enough time put in. Soloable content that requires moderate commitment is probably the most in line with what pet collectors are after, ime: things like the new pet dungeons, family familiar/awfully big adventure, raiding with leashes achievements, bags that drop pets, etc.
You can do any of those things in a short period at any time, alone, and even if you quit for 6 months and return, your progress isn't lost.
I have to echo the sentiments here. In Legion, Blizz seems to miss that pet collecting is, itself, a game with a substantial and passionate community behind it. Many of us will go to crazy lengths to increase the size and quality of our collections. Generally however, pet collecting has been accessible to anyone, regardless of their playstyle. Folks with other interests (PvP, raiding, etc.) have traditionally been rewarded with mounts.
We are now presented with pets as rewards for multiple, unusually large time commitments. To complete your collection, you must prestige 7 times, *twice*, achieve 52 levels of artifact power *four times* across two alts (and level 4 more), farm up a million gold and put up with exasperating RNG. With 7.2.5, you now need to be part of an elite raiding group while you might *still* be grinding the rest.
With this kind of broad-based time commitment compressed into a single expansion, the accessibility of pet collecting seems lost.
I'm OK with raiding, tho I am disappointed with the Mythic thing, to the point that I have not raided. If Blizzard improves it and opens it up some, I'll return for it.
As for pets gained off it? I will be interested ... right now it's not worth it, regardless of supposed gift ... of a typical Blizzard EMPTY promise ... you get there and it's "random", you never get what you need or would like to have! Until that "random" is gone, I'm not interested.
Well . . . I had "retired" myself from my guilds raid team last expac but I might have to "un-retire" myself now lol.
Well at least, in my opinion, it doesn't look super amazing or cute or whatever that I absolutely must have it, so no hard feelings for yet another pet behind some ingame activity I find absolutely dreadful. But I think if this trend continues I might just give up pet collecting altogether. The paragon chest RNG garbage is bad enough that i already don't want to bother anymore as is.
As a member of a Heroic raiding group, this will not be a problem personally. I do hope they have no plans to remove the pet after Legion so that we will easily be able to help everyone get it. I don't mind an achievement based pet like this, I know many people farming dropped raid pets years after current content just to get a Glob from Heroic Primordius or JiJi-Kun Hatchling, guess the difference is they are tradeable.
I hope they open it up for LFR players. They have the numbers they must surely know how many people don't raid.
I stopped raiding 3 years ago and I don't want to waste so much time again in this type of content. Actually this brought me to the pet battles, for me the "hardcore endgame" for casual players.
I was ok with farming "some" PVP and Family Familar achievement. But with a 1 million pet it was getting clunky and the 3 Deathknight pets are a horrible way to force pet collectors to play content they won't usually play.
Joining sell runs is a fun destroying way to get such pets.
God DAMN it Blizzard!
