The Bronze Proto-Whelp (pictured right) is a drop from the Iron Horde in Blasted Lands. This pet will not be replacing the Bronze Whelpling; they will be two separate pets.
Three New Pets
Previously the upcoming Deadmines Pet Battle Challenge Dungeon achievement awarded the Pocket Cannon, but this pet was moved to a vendor leaving the achievement without a reward.
In the latest PTR build the achievement was updated and it once again awards a pet.
The pet might seem a little familiar, as you face the enemy version inside the Deadmines Pet Battle Dungeon — the Mining Monkey (pictured right)!
There were also two additional new pets in the recent PTR patch, Dig Rat and Sneaky Marmot.
Both of these pets are listed as Rogue Pickpocketing drops. Which NPC do you think could be hiding a rat and marmot in their pockets?

Hmmm, perhaps they mean "Ironmarch" ... and most of them are Orcs ... unless someone has gotten one of these I am not sure this information is correct. A Flying Whelp in Blasted Lands ... just doesn't seem right!
On the old Blasted Lands, the mines were owned by the Iron Dwarfs and that made a bit more sense ... can someone post immediately off which mob they got it? I just purged at least 200 of those and got only one pet ... ZILCH!
A Bronze Proto-Whelp?
I don't envy those who like to set pets and mounts together and are yet to get the Time-Lost Proto-Drake!
An Iron Horde drop again, hmmm. I'd rather expect something like that related to the Chromie scenario. *shrugs*
Any idea what this is? http://ptr.wowhead.com/npc=122033
I'll have him work for me!
I actually love all the class specific pets. It is so much more rewarding to have to work towards a pet than desperately hope you're lucky with rediculous RNG drops. Pick pocketing pets have me intrigued!
I'm not a fan of all the class specific pets. It's interesting they would add something to the game like "mini holidays" that have no traditional rewards on the premise that they don't want players to feel forced to do it. Then add pets you can only get by playing certain classes, forcing collectors to have specific alts.
Is that a pocket cannon for me or are you just happy to see my minning monkey? Monkey looks nice, maybe he could mine nearby nodes for me :)
I want those
I hope this is Blizz's excuse to finally give the marmots and prairie dogs a new model.
Rat is a bit easy. One dwarf. But wich dwarf?
I remember one quest in Barrens about this and one food of rats for cooking. Maybe there.
