Vale Flitter — Pet of the Month: January 2018

January 13, 2018
Vale Flitter - Pet of the Month January 2018

We're starting off the year with a pet-type that can usually be found at least once each expansion. It may be more common and not very flashy, but this moth is a must have for any collector or battler — let's discuss the Vale Flitter!

Collecting the Vale Flitter
Vale Flitter
The Vale Flitter is a wild pet that can be found in Val'sharah on the Broken Isles. It's level 25 and can be encountered as a primary or secondary wild pet.

This pet generally prefers the lush green areas in Val'sharah, however there is a small area north of Andu'talah where the Vale Flitter has a chance to appear.

If it's being too elusive, one trick is to kill any miscellaneous critters in the area. This tactic might "force" a Vale Flitter to spawn.

Collecting this wild moth will award progress toward the Broken Isles Safari achievement. Defeating a Vale Flitter is an objective during the Sharptalon Hatchling quest chain, just be sure to have the correct pet team ready for battle!

Battling with the Vale Flitter
The Vale Flitter is a strong battler with a surprising amount of survivability.

Moths in general are a popular choice for many. The Vale Flitter has a moveset shared mostly by newer moths like the Cerulean Moth, as opposed to older ones like the Oasis Moth. It's debatable which set is strictly "better." Each has their own benefits for different encounters.

The ability most moths share, Cocoon Strike, is a big reason why moths are so popular. The avoidance is a very powerful tool for blocking, especially if your opponent is slower than your moth. With the flying family trait, the enemy pet probably will be.

Another shared ability, Moth Dust, is a high-damage, but high-cooldown DPS ability. It also brings a chance to stun to the table which can help with longevity too — as long as you get lucky.

Reckless Strike brings some big DPS too, but it's a double-edged sword, applying a self-debuff which increases damage taken for a turn. The Cocoon can help with that a bit. So can Counterspell, which only prevents your opponent from acting, and only if your Flitter goes first.

Slicing Wind brings the filler DPS to the table for most moths. As a multi-hitting ability, it seems to synergize better with this moveset. Pairing it with Call Lightning makes for a great combo.

Vale Flitter casting Call Lightning
Call Lightning is great for a number of reasons. It's a weather effect, which can be vital for messing up your opponent's day. In this case, Call Lightning acts as a great move to bump up the DPS.

Among the Call Lightning moths, the Vale Flitter is your best choice because it's the only one with a P/P breed option, and you're going to want as much power as possible behind your pet. Call Lightning is really what sets the newer moths apart from the older ones. If you really need to focus on the DPS, or need to shut down a weather combo, use the Vale Flitter. If you need more juking capability, grab an older, more traditional moth. The kind of moth your mom would want you to settle down with, if she were also a moth.

Patch 7.3.5 is Live: 2 New Pets, PVP Pet Battle Achievements & More

January 16, 2018
UPDATE: The WoW Secrets Discord server has done some detective work on Uuna's story! Progress has already been made, be sure to check out the #secrets-progress channel to learn more.

Secrets Discord server can be found here: https://discord.gg/wowsecrets

In addition to these discoveries, Developer Jeremy Feasel announced that a hotfix was applied to increase Uuna's drop rate from the The Many-Faced Devourer. Go save Uuna!

Patch 7.3.5 - 2 new pets and more!
Patch 7.3.5 is live this week! It adds two new pets, PVP Pet Battle achievements and tabard reward, plus a continuation of Uuna's story. [source]

New Pets
There are two new pets that collectors can obtain. The first is a reward from an achievement that can only be earned toward the end of a relatively short quest chain, and the second is a drop from rare elites in the new max-level area in Silithus.

Mailemental
Mailemental
Players must first obtain the breadcrumb quest from a lootable BoP letter on the ground next to a mailbox in Dalaran (Broken Isles). The item begins the quest Lost Mail. The lootable object has respawn time of roughly 2-3 hours.

The quest chain will take players to a new area, the Postmaster's Office, as well as other zones on Azeroth. Check out Wowhead's full walk-through of the quests.

Toward the end of the quest chain a mini-game is unlocked where players must sort mail into tubes. Completing the achievement "Post Haste" will award the pet.

In addition to earning the Mailemental, players that complete this fun quest chain will also receive a Bind On Use quest item that can be traded to other players, allowing the quest to be passed on similar to sharing the Brawler's Guild invitations.

Silithid Mini-Tank
Silithid Mini-Tank
Three new rare elites appear in the updated max-level area, The Wound, in Silithus.

All three rare elites have a chance to drop the Silithid Mini-Tank. The pet is BoP but it can be caged.

We hope that getting this pet to drop won't be as difficult as pronouncing each rare's name!

New PVP Pet Battle Achievements
Master Trainer's Tabard
PVP Pet Battle connoisseurs rejoice — there are new PVP challenges with a new reward.

Similar to the Family Familiar and Family Fighter, players will need to win 10 queued PVP Pet Battle matches using teams of one pet-type. Doing this for each pet family will complete the Family Brawler achievement and award a Master Trainer's Tabard (pictured left).

Complete this new set of Pet Battle challenges and show off your Pet PVP prowess!

Uuna's Continued Story?
Uuna
During Patch 7.3.5's testing phase, some interesting dialogue regarding the non-combat companion Uuna was datamined (*SPOILER* Warning).

Uuna's flavor text was changed from, "One of the many children thought lost in the battle for Argus, only to find themselves infused into an Ur'zul." to an interesting description that possibly foreshadows where the datamined dialogue will take place.

(New text) "Uuna was found bound to an Ur'zul, and was released into the Shadowlands, where she wandered in the utter darkness."

It's still unclear when or where players that have liberated Uuna from her Ur'zul prison will encounter this new dialogue, but it's speculated that a solo-scenario, similar to The Deaths of Chromie, might allow players to follow-up on the fate of this Draenei child's ghost.

Battle For Azeroth Pre-Orders: Tottle Now Available

January 30, 2018
UPDATE: We've updated our database to include Tottle. This pet's profile is still a Work In Progress, and as such we'll continue to update it. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Because Tottle is still very new and is not yet properly appearing in the Battle.net Armory, user collections might not update to include this pet when re-importing at this time.

Pre-orders for Battle For Azeroth are now available! [source]

The Standard ($49.99 USD) and Digital Deluxe ($69.99 USD) version of the upcoming expansion can be ordered from the Blizzard Store or in-game Blizzard Shop. The Collector's Edition will likely be available in the near future.

Tottle
Players that pre-order Battle For Azeroth Digital Deluxe will receive an in-game battle pet, Tottle (pictured above), plus access to Allied Races and other redeemable goodies. Tottle is added directly to the Pet Journal upon purchasing the Digital Deluxe.

We're currently working on adding this pet to the WarcraftPets database, and it should be updated Soon™.

Join us in welcoming Tottle to the battle pet family. We can't wait to explore Kul Tiras and Zandalar with this adorable Tortollan companion!
