Patch 6.2 PTR: Two New Pets and Crusher Update

May 06, 2015
Two New Pets
Two new pets were added in the latest 6.2 PTR build — Cinder Pup and Shard of Cyrukh. [source]

Cinder Pup
The Cinder Pup (pictured right) will be a reward from a follower mission, Fiery Friends.

"A group of tiny fiery puppies was spotted deep within Blackrock Foundry. If we save them, we may be able to raise them."

We hope the Cinder Pup will get along well with the Cinder Kitten!

Shard of Cyrukh
The second pet, Shard of Cyrukh (pictured left), will require a fair amount of questing in Tanaan Jungle before gaining access to the area in which the treasure spawns.

According to Twitter user @Mononic1, the treasure containing the Shard of Cyrukh is located south-east of Throne of Kil'jaeden. Once this area is unlocked for you, keep an eye out for a glowing yellow crystal jutting out of the ground (pictured below).

Update On Crusher
Crusher with pickaxe
Crusher, a pet inspired by the ideas of a seven year old aspiring developer, was added to the PTR.

This pet will be available from Trader Araanda (A) and Trader Darakk (H), found inside the Town Hall in your garrison. Crusher will cost 1000 gold and is Bind on Use.

True to the boy's original concept art, Crusher wields a little pickaxe when summoned out (pictured right).

Patch 6.2 PTR: Pet Battle Bonus Event

May 17, 2015
An update was added to the official 6.2 PTR Patch Notes that included additional information on the Bonus Event for Pet Battles. [source]

During Pet Battle Bonus Events, you’ll be able to take your pets out for a little exercise and earn triple pet experience from battles. Winning several PvP Pet Battles as a part of a quest during the event awards the player with an Ultimate Battle-Training Stone that instantly levels a pet to 25.

Pet Battle Bonus Event PVP quest
In addition to the triple pet experience buff, an account-wide, weekly pet PVP quest will be available during the Pet Battle Bonus Event.

The quest, The Very Best, can be obtained from an NPC located outside of your Town Hall during the event. Win five queued pet PVP matches against other level 25 teams and you'll be awarded with an Ultimate Battle-Training Stone.

If PVP isn't your cup of tea, you can still benefit from the Bonus Event. During the event all players receive a buff, Sign of the Critter. This bonus pet experience stacks with the Safari Hat, pet treats, and Darkmoon Top Hat.

The Pet Battle Bonus Event is scheduled to last for four days each month. That isn't a lot of time to take advantage of the experience buff, so better have all of your pet leveling accessories ready!

Two Ultra-Rare Pets?
New in Blizzard's 6.2 Pet Preview are the Crimsonwing Moth and the Sapphire Firefly. According to Blizzard these two wild pets will have a unique spawn pattern, similar to that of the Unborn Val'kyr.

  • Crimsonwing Moth -- A rare spawn in Talador with many spawn points, and only one ever appearing in the zone at a time.
  • Sapphire Firefly – A rare spawn in Spires of Arak who also has many spawn points and appears only once at a time.

The location of these pets and how often they will appear is still unknown.

Currently the Crimsonwing Moth and Sapphire Firefly have yet to be added to the Pet Journal on the PTR, but we will announce any updates so stay tuned for more information.

Junglebeak — Pet of the Month: May 2015

May 22, 2015
Junglebeak - Pet of the Month: May 2015

Its feathers are flashy, but its beak and talons are sharp. Don't let its looks fool you; this pet can hold its own. A savage pet from a savage land — this month we're featuring the Junglebeak!

Collecting a Junglebeak
Junglebeak
This brightly colored bird is a wild pet that can be found in Gorgrond, Draenor.

The Junglebeak can spawn in as a primary and secondary pet in the dense jungle areas. You won't need to look for very long before coming across one. Be sure to look up, since this bird has a habit of flying high, closer to the canopy than to the ground.

It's fellow flying friend, the Axebeak Hatchling, can also be seen flying in and around the trees in Gorgrond, but in fewer areas than the Junglebeak.

Both pets have the identical abilities and breeds, so collecting either will provide you with the same battling capability. And if you have trouble deciding which one to favor, you can always toss a coin or simply pick the one with the most appealing plumage.

Battling with a Junglebeak
Junglebeaks have a whole lot going for them. Not only do they have that wild, colorful skin, but they have a good amount of versatility and good offense.

As with many bird-type Flying pets, sharing the first slot is the multi-hitting Slicing Wind and the single-hitting Peck. Slicing Wind is the better choice if your opponent doesn't have shields and you can ensure that you're going to be the fastest. Otherwise Peck is your best pick.

Your DPS option seems like it would be Flyby in the second slot, which adds a 25% damage multiplier, plus the heavy-hitting, but low baseline accuracy, Nocturnal Strike in the third slot. This is partially true, if you can introduce a buddy for your Junglebeak with a Blind effect.

Junglebeak using Rain Dance
However, the second slot also hosts Rain Dance (pictured above), which gives a substantial heal and 50% accuracy boost, which means Nocturnal Strike then has a 100% chance to hit. Even disregarding the additional 25% boost to critical chance, this strong self-synergy which is very difficult to negate is a very valid choice both in PVE and PVP.

The last slot also hosts Lift-Off. If your stable is relatively small, Lift-Off and Rain Dance healing makes for a Flying pet with some longevity, which can be difficult to find. A pet that can swing from a damage dealing dynamo to a turtling terror with just one small change in its moveset? Well, that's why the Junglebeak is pet of the month.

Check out our forum thread discussion on the Junglebeak and submit your own thoughts on this pet.

Battling Discussion on the Junglebeak

Patch 6.2 PTR: Blazing Firehawk and Savage Cub

May 28, 2015
Two new pets were added to the 6.2 PTR in the recent patch. [source]

New Faction Pets
Z'tenga the Walker
Two new pets will be available from two new factions in 6.2. Both pets will require a reputation grind, but it will be worth it!

The first pet is the Blazing Firehawk, which will be available from Dawn-Seeker Krisek for 2000 Apexis Crystals.

You'll need quite a bit of esteem with the Order of the Awakened before you can purchase this pet though. The vendor will only sell this pet to players who are Exalted with the faction.

The second pet is the Savage Cub. Once Revered with The Saberstalkers, Z'tenga the Walker will sell you this pet for a unique currency — 200 Blackfang Claws.

These claws can be looted from the saberon at Fang'rila in Tanaan Jungle. Be careful though, the saberon are fierce enemies who would much rather keep their claws than hand them over to you.

Patch 6.2 is shaping up to be full of pets from various sources. Currently there are 26 new companions just waiting to be collected!
