Could SOPA and PIPA Affect WarcraftPets?

January 19, 2012
In a word, yes.

You've no doubt heard about SOPA and PIPA after yesterday's Internet strike. Sites like Google and Wikipedia brought awareness about these bills to the masses. If you're still not sure why they're harmful to so many websites (WarcraftPets included), read this explanation — it's a bit technical, but you'll learn enough to make an informed decision.

This legislation has a direct impact on the gaming community. What's more, if these laws were on the books five years ago, I never would've created WarcraftPets due to the legal and technical overhead placed on web developers.

What You Can Do...
Take less than one minute of your time to:

  1. Sign the petition
  2. Contact your senators

Putting an end to piracy is definitely a worthwhile cause. But these bills were drafted by people who don't fully understand the impact they'll have the Internet we know and love. Should they pass as-is, the results could be disastrous.

Lunar Festival: Two New Pets!

January 22, 2012
Lunar Festival: Two New Pets!
The Lunar Festival is finally here and this time there are minipets to collect!

Glowly Gracefully
Blizzard has added two new faction-favored companions, the Festival Lantern (Horde) and the Lunar Lantern (Alliance), to this in-game event. Don't let a faction tag discourage you, though! Both companions are Bind On Use, which means that a single character can acquire and add both pets to their collection.

Players can purchase these pets from Valadar Starsong, located in Moonglade. Each lantern costs 50 Coins of Ancestry.

Happy pet Elder(?) hunting!

Pet Battle Contest and More!

January 25, 2012
We know that many of you are excited about the pet battles coming in Mists of Pandaria. Well, we’ve got a fun new contest that’s chock-full of companion combat, plus some incredible prizes for all you pet lovers!

But first...
In preparation for this contest, we've updated our site with a new page dedicated to pet battles. This page provides all of the most current details surrounding the new pet battle system. We'll be keeping it up-to-date as we learn more about this exciting new aspect of pet collecting.

The new WoW Pet Battles page is accessible from our 'Vanity Pets' menu.

It's a contest... it's a game... it's BOTH!
Pet Battle Mini-Game!

In anticipation of MoP’s pet battle system, we’ve created a customizable Pet Battle Mini-Game! (Pet battles won’t actually work the way we’ve imagined them here — this is purely for fun.)

This is a rock-paper-scissors game in which you’re randomly presented a pet; it’s up to you to choose which pet can defeat it.

Even better, we’ve built this feature so that you can create your own mini-games that others can play and share! And you’ll want to enter your best one in our contest.

Enjoy, and good luck!
