While questing in Nagrand, I grabbed a grey and checked for an upgrade until I was finished questing in the zone. Never found the upgrade. In my opinion, this one is worth a stone, unless it has a higher rare chance elsewhere. 

While questing in Nagrand for Loremaster, I grabbed one grey pet and checked every other one for a rare. Never found one. In my opinion, this one is worth a stone. 

Found my rare as a secondary to Shore Crab near the Ruins of Eldarath. 

I found my rare at the Dalaran Crater in the Hillsbrad Foothills. This place is full of rats. 

I found the rare as a secondary to Mouse in the Wetlands. 

I found the rare by accident in the knollcamp northwest of Lakeshire.
