Since I haven't seen this spot mentioned, I found mine at 68.4, 41.4. It's on the other side of the Cinderwold from the Cinderbrew Meadery (just the slightest bit northeast from the Durgaz Cabin flight point). Mine was sitting on top of a short fence there.
Although it is technically a ground pet, it does hover on summon and when you run on a ground mount it glides after you mid-air. Will disappear if you fly though. I wish it hovered as an idle animation because it's super cute!
@Shyhelma - from everything I can see, still have to do the 4 hours to "earn" the pet, even if you already have it, before you can start on your 4 hours towards the mount. Frustrating to say the least.
There's a timeout on how often your trainee will dig up something. There is a 5 minute cooldown and then you must kill a non-critter (i.e. something with decent HP). So farming tons of mobs won't make your trainee go any faster. You just have to kill one thing every 5 minutes.
I have found this as a primary pet around central Ardenweald - specifically as I type this I am due east of the Refugee Camp FP just before the ravine where the road forks. My addons haven't updated so I don't have coordinates but this can be a primary pet. (as of this writing it is listed as addon only)
@Zahira, mine is S/B. H-1300 P-240 S-289 (at 23)
I have never been able to find this on the regular Mechagon island. I went into the raid and it was on the Alliance beach my first time. Thank you for the comments! I would have NEVER looked in there!
My personal advice is try Sparkweaver Point. I made a simple macro to /target rustyroot snooter (because some of them run really fast and are hard to click on). I killed all of them, including the critter/non-battle pet ones for about 5 minutes and a Duskytooth spawned. Obviously YMMV but good luck to all! :)
Update: also check by Corey Clockbonk when you fly in (77.7, 40). Twice now I've seen a Duskytooth just hanging out next to him and people ignored it! I even called out in General.
This pet has an infuriating self-destruct that makes it very difficult to catch. :(
It's weird to me that this pet is significantly smaller than Albatross Chick.
Years ago, I would kill a couple hundred a day, until inevitably someone else came to farm the area. Never got it to drop and eventually gave up. If I happened to go to Northrend I may stop by the area but often didn't. Today I went on a whim and got the drop on my 7th kill! Pretty sure my heart stopped for a second.
Dropped on 1st try - 10 man Normal.
I agree that the pre-Legion invasions seemed to bug the Fluxfire Feline, but it seems to be spawning again now.
I finally got the Gundrak Hatchling today!
