This guy pairs great with a Call Lightning user to take out Zao in the Celestial Tournament. Go Batter/Toxic Smoke/Explode, and you can tear chunks out of the big ox, just before exploding in his face. This also works for Lil' Oondasta, though the other Legendary beasts are too fast for Batter to get its maximum effect (save Gorespine, but Spiked Skin shuts this strategy down just as hard).
@ Nikkip: That's probably because you have an H/B breed, not an H/H one.
Anyway, an interesting pet since it's one of only two turtles to have a unique moveset (the other being the Wanderer's Festival Hatchling), even if it's just replacing a Beast attack with a Magic one. I wouldn't deliberately use him against Flying types myself, but with Shell Shield's ability to shut down moves like Slicing Wind and Moth Balls, I'd say Emerald Bite gives him a fair chance if you have no other choice.
@ Nehima: I think you have that backwards. Since this comes in only one breed, you're much better off holding out for a rare than using up a stone on it, as you don't have to worry about that scenario where you find a rare, but it's a lousy breed, or just not the one you want.
There are enough battle pets that your magic battle-stones should be used on; just use persistence with this one.
Found mine by creating a DK on the Venture Co. Realm, parking in Shatter Scar, and logging in late night/early morning. Remember though, that this is somewhat common advice, so don't be too surprised to see another lvl 58 DK hanging around as well. However, this realm only seems to be camped by people who are frustrated by this thing and probably won't bother coming back once they get one, so just exercise a little persistence and you will get one.
Grab a rare P/P breed, and level it up; you will not be disappointed. Using Howl+Bite, this guy makes mincemeat out of several of the Legendary Pandaran Beasts, to the point that he can outright solo a few of them if you don't get unlucky.
@ Shrew: It's not a glitch, nor is it a downside. Read the tooltip of Wish, it says it heals the active pet. So if you want to switch the Crawdad out immediately after using Wish, switch to a pet that could use a heal, as the Wish will hit the pet you switch to, not the Crawdad.
@ Ayvida: Did you have your sister try learning to summon the second Bonkers, then cage it? The item you get directly from the chests can't be traded, but Bonkers himself should be tradable.
Anyway, this is a nice pet to have; it's a nightmare against critters, has a choice between two nice buffs, and Tornado Punch is awesome. I initially raised a P/P variant, and I might go for a S/S or P/S variant as well, since it's not as useful using Dodge against a faster opponent.
I agree with Melmo in that I don't see the point of getting a S/S breed snail, aside from the completionist/novelty factor. You're losing a fair amount of health and power for the sake of speed that isn't likely to help much anyway.
Shoring up your weaknesses is a nice idea, but sometimes your effort is better spent improving what you're already good at. H/B breed all the way.
@ Gawd: Only the H/H breed has that much health, and based on the info you gave, you have the H/P variant.
Fortunately, you're probably better off with that anyway. H/P has less health, but its Absorb will heal for more, its Shell Shield will stop more damage, and, of course, it'll hit harder overall.
Having the H/P breed probably makes this guy better than the Rapana Whelk, albeit requiring more of a time investment.
I gotta say, I have to question the wisdom of putting Batter and Overtune in the same moveslot, especially since this guy doesn't seem to be built for speed anyway.
I have a fair few Mechanicals I want to stone before I get to this guy, but looks like Peck - Overtune - Wind-Up might be the best moveset for it.
I find it most convenient to hunt for these immediately after doing the Argent Tournament dailies(if you haven't gotten quite everything from them yet), and doubling up by hunting Stunted Shardhorns at the same time. The area these guys show up in is small enough that it doesn't even take a full minute to do a full lap before going back to try for the rhino.
Go for P/P, with Emerald Bite/Presence/Dream. Turned flyers into total jokes even before maxing out.
The only frog/toad available in a P/S build, so I say go for one of those if you can.
As usual for frogs, this guy makes a great counter to undeads, with its Aquatic resistance, Critter attacks, and a heal that gives it something worthwhile to do during that turn when the Undead pet is immortal just before it keels over.
From what I've seen, these guys start spawning at midnight, but on Pacific time, not your server's time. I'm not sure if this also applies to non-American servers.
As for the pet itself, I'd recommend a H/H build. Phase Shift will be less useful, but the Shadeling looks like it gets outran a lot even with H/S, so it might be best to shoot for the extra turn the Undead racial gets for being slower, and use it to get off one last Plagued Blood for the rest of your team.
I recommend shooting for a P/P variant with the following moveset:
Leech Life - Sticky Web - Stoneskin: This guy can survive a lot with P/P boosting Stoneskin and Leech Life. Look out for opponents with powerful heals, though; even with a P/P build, these aren't particularly hard-hitting attacks.
I highly recommend this guy for the fabled Pandaran beasts.
That annoying passive that cuts the damage they take does not apply to attacks whose damage is based of a percentage of health, like Explode. Add Decoy and Flyby to support the rest of your team, and this makes for a solid option.
LOVE this guy. I highly recommend picking one up.
If possible, go for a S/S variant(I was lucky enough to find a rare one my first time out). My moveset for him doesn't really change, so this is what I use:
Batter - Screech - Exposed Wounds: Incredible synergy, making full use of its high speed while downplaying its relatively low power, while at the same time providing debuff support.
@ Covetius: And if the gnome uses Launch Rocket instead? What then?
Just because its most unique move has a family of abilities that hard counter it does not make the pet as a whole useless. You're an idiot if you honestly think that it does.
I named mine Choke Artist, because the one thing he's good at is missing attacks at the worst times, and I don't even use Demolish.
