March 10, 2016

Pygmy Owl
This lovely owl (pictured right) is a Bind on Use drop from Gorebeak, a rare elite found in Val'sharah.

Although only one pet was added to Alpha this time around, there are dozens of pets coming in the expansion. We look forward to collecting all of them!

A new model was datamined in the recent Alpha patch, an adorable baby deer in six different colors (pictured below).

It's currently unknown if this will be a collectible pet, but we certainly hope so!

Elwynn Lamb — Pet of the Month: March 2016

March 22, 2016
Elwynn Lamb - Pet of the Month March 2016

Celebrate this Spring season with a fluffy (soon-to-be even fluffier!) pet — the Elwynn Lamb.

Collecting the Elwynn Lamb
Elwynn Lamb
The Elwynn Lamb can be purchased from Corporal Arthur Flew at the Argent Tournament in Icecrown, Northrend. What is an innocent little sheep doing in the cold north? Bringing a bit of Spring to the tournament, of course!

The Elwynn Lamb costs 40 Champion Seals, however players can only access the vendor if they have earned Champion status with Stormwind.

Participating in the Argent Tournament requires level 77 or higher. Players must progress through many stages of a long quest chain that will lead to collecting Aspirant's Seals, Valiant's Seals, and finally Champion's Seals. Upon unlocking Champion's Seals, players can begin "championing" for a specific faction and earn Seals as well as reputation.

Completing each tier of quests requires multiple days and daily turn-ins. Check out this Argent Tournament guide on Wowhead for a more in-depth description of the Argent Tournament quests and dailies.

Although this pet can only be purchased directly from the vendor by Alliance characters, the Elwynn Lamb is Bind On Use, making it possible to trade or sell it to players of the opposing faction.

It's also possible to obtain this pet as a random drop from a variety of loot containers, one of which is the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries, the BoA reward for queuing and completing a heroic dungeon as one of the needed roles indicated by the Dungeon Group Finder.

New sheep model in Legion
The Elwynn Lamb is a must-have for any collector. It has an interesting (if not heartbreaking) idle animation — a wolf will sometimes appear, run up to the lamb, eat it and then fall asleep. Unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done to save the little sheep, but don't worry. This pet is a resilient creature and can be resummoned.

The Spring season is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings. Although the Elwynn Lamb isn't new, it will be receiving an updated look (pictured left) come Legion. Talk about extra fluffy and adorable!

Battling with the Elwynn Lamb
The Elwynn Lamb makes for a cuddly and versatile, if offbeat, battler.

The ability Soothe can give you a bit of time to set up a combo or start chaining other abilities. In the case of the Lamb, there are two abilities you’ll want to consider stringing together for a dangerous combo.

Elwynn Lamb using Chew
Chew has a ‘charge’ round before it deals decent damage. Unlike other abilities of this nature, you can attack on the round Chew charges up, with Chew hitting at the end of the round, after both your and your opponent's action.

The ability you’ll want to consider for that intervening round is noted favorite Stampede. Because of the multiplier Stampede applies and the inexorable nature of that 1-2 punch with Chew, if you start off with Soothe there’s nothing your opponent can really do. Even swapping pets means they don’t really have time to act.

The trade-off is that those three abilities is all you get in a moveset, so it’s a bit of a liability unless you’ve got a fairly solid plan in play.

The other three abilities used by the Elwynn Lamb can help with that trade. Hoof is very straightforward, but it offers a solid filler move. Comeback has an additional gimmick, dealing extra damage when the Lamb’s health is lower. This isn’t a great move in concert with Chew, which acts at the end of the round, but it has pretty decent throughput otherwise.

The Lamb’s last move, Bleat, deals a small bit of healing to the whole team on a cooldown. It’s not much, but its supportive nature is welcome in March. In like a lion, out like a lamb!

Legion Alpha: Pet Journal Cap Increased, New Pet, and More

March 31, 2016
A new Alpha build was released — highlights include an increase to the number of allowed pets in your Pet Journal, a new pet, new model, and more! [source]

New Pet and A New Model
Sting Ray Pup colors

The Sting Ray Pup was added in the recent Alpha patch. It comes in a few different colors (pictured above), however only the red version is currently collectible.

Unfortunately it's still unclear how we'll collect this interesting aquatic pet.

Sandpiper
The Pet Journal entry on Alpha has identical information as the Land Shark and Sea Calf, but the sting ray will likely be from Legion content.

In addition to the Sting Ray Pup, an absolutely adorable sandpiper model was datamined (pictured right).

It has not yet been confirmed as a new battle pet, but we certainly hope that this cutie will be adoptable in Legion.

Pet Journal Cap Increased
A new item was added to Legion Alpha, one that will make many pet collectors and battlers very happy: Pocket Pet Portal.

This on-use consumable will increase the number of pets allowed in your Pet Journal. The new cap in Legion will be 1500 pets (up from 1000).

It's still unknown how we'll obtain this amazing item, but we can't wait to get our hands on it. Space for even more pets? Yes, please!

New Pet Treat and Reward Bag
Last but not least, a new pet treat and reward bag was datamined.

The Ominous Pet Treat is a consumable that will temporarily "corrupt" your target pet with energy from the Void.

Currently Wowhead lists this consumable as a holiday item. It seems fitting for a Hallow's End update — a Void Lord costume for your pet would be fun! Or at least...we hope it's just a costume.

It's also possible that this void-filled pet treat could come from a new reward bag, Pet Tournament Purse.

Where the bag comes from is still a mystery, but if its name is any indication, a pet tournament is likely on the way.

If the treat is indeed a drop from this new bag, who on Azeroth would want to include an Ominous Pet Treat as a reward? #OldGods

We'll have to wait and see where both of these items come from, stay tuned!
