Blizzard recently announced that one of the Blizzcon goodies will indeed be a pet. Not just any pet, though! It will be a themed murloc, dressed and ready for battle (or for looking adorable). [source]


Murkalot (pictured above, courtesy of MMO-Champion) is themed after the new Crusader class from the upcoming Diablo 3 expansion, Reaper of Souls.

Although this might be the case, anyone else get the impression that Murkalot will be counting to five three and then throwing a Holy Hand Grenade?

Collecting Murkalot
Blizzcon will be held November 8 & 9, 2013 and attendees will receive a scratch card with the code for Murkalot in the swag-bag that's provided at the convention.

For those that missed the sale or are unable to attend in person, Blizzard is also selling Blizzcon Virtual Tickets (US). The EU sale can be found here. Those that purchase a Blizzcon Virtual Ticket will be eligible to redeem the pet.

Keep in mind that unlike the code on the pet card, the pet obtained through the Virtual Ticket cannot be traded or sold, and is bound to the account that the ticket was purchased on.

WarcraftPets at Blizzcon
Not only are we excited about the new Blizzcon pet, there's much anticipation for this year's Blizzcon WarcraftPets Meet-and-Greet!

Two pets have been datamined from the upcoming PTR patch 5.4.1. [source]

A New Dog Pet... Finally!
Dog lovers rejoice! One of the datamined pets is a new canine companion named Bernard. As its name suggests, it's a Saint Bernard, and it is equipped with lifesaving booze "medicine."

The item that teaches this pet is Bind on Pick Up, but how players will obtain it is currently unknown. This information will likely become available in the near future so stay tuned.

A New Murloc Pet and Achievement
Another pet found in the latest datamining of the PTR is one that was recently announced to be the pet for Blizzcon 2013, Murkalot!

Collecting this battle-ready baby murloc will award the achievement Murkalot.

Patch 5.4.1 may not be too far away, since Blizzcon attendees (and Virtual Ticket holders) will be receiving their own baby murlocs at the start of the convention (November 8th). We'll have to wait and see!

Blizzard recently provided an update on the status of the 2013 Arena Pass rewards. [source]

They have resolved the issue that caused a delay in awarding players with the pet and title for participating in the Arena Pass event.

Players are already reporting that they received Murkimus shortly after the update, however the Vanquisher title may still be delayed.

Blizzard has only just started sending out the rewards, so if you have yet to receive the pet or the title it may arrive within the next few days. Keep an eye on your in-game mail!

Wowhead recently found that a few pets that were previously marked as only available in the Asian region, are now flagged as RAF pets on the PTR. [source]

Recruit-A-Friend Pet Rewards
Blizzard made an announcement that the Recruit-A-Friend program would be receiving a revamp in the near future. Part of the update may include redeemable pets!

The PTR Pet Journal currently lists four RAF pets. Originally, these pets were only available for a limited time in Asian regions. All of them are unique and non-tradeable.

• Golden Pig
• Jade Tiger
• Silver Pig
• Zipao Tiger

There are other Asia-exclusive companions, however they have not been updated to "RAF status" at this time. It's possible that they may join the ranks of RAF pets in the future.

We'll have to wait and see how the new RAF program works, and what will be required to redeem these pets.

One thing seems likely though, more friends that join you in Azeroth may mean more pets for your collection!

New Pets
Only two new pets were implemented with this mini-patch, but boy are they adorable!

Keep in mind that while they have been added to the Pet Journal, they have not been released yet.

The first pet, Murkalot, will be mailed to accounts that purchased a Blizzcon 2013 Virtual Ticket, while attendees of the convention will need to redeem a code found on the gift card that's awarded as part of the Blizzcon goodie bag.

The second pet, Alterac Brew-Pup, will be available from the Blizzard Pet Store in the future. Stay tuned - we'll be sure to announce it's official release!

Recruit-A-Friend Pet Rewards
Pets that were previously unobtainable in regions other than Asia have now been flagged as rewards from the upcoming revamped RAF system. Currently there are four possible RAF pets to collect.

• Jade Tiger
• Silver Pig
• Zipao Tiger

More details on the eligibility requirements for these RAF rewards will be coming in the near future.
