I have killed thousands of the raptors and have never gotten this pet to drop. Is there a "gate", such as a quest that needs to be completed, to get these to drop? Wowhead.com lists this as 1 in 1,000 drop so I never really counted my kills until today (over 700 just today).

-- Got my first one to drop after 806 (tracked kills). Now need one for my wife's account ...

This pet is a leveling beast when when paired with Magic Lamp. He takes care of Critters and Beasts with the magic lamp taking on the flyers. Throw stones on them and they'll 2-3 shot the common wilds with superior healing; you'll rarely have use your 8 min heal. Pounce, Screech, Devour work best for me.
