There are 2 torches just outside the cave. If you click one you'll put it on your back, and it scares away the mobs inside the cave. It doesn't last long, and you will probably still go into combat, so quickly find a spot close enough to reach the Hissing Chitterspine that keeps you OUT of combat and you should be good. For some reason I had better luck getting out of combat by going down the ramp to the left, to the pool down there, than straight ahead.
